This project was done as a part of our course 'Tangible Interaction'. Here, we aimed at making classroom History learning experience and History museum experience more interesting, engaging and effective.

Previous studies show that History is considered to be less engaging due to the non-participatory learning experience it offers. Information and Communication Technology (ICT) mediated solutions especially in Tangible User Interfaces are proposed by the researchers to promote constructive learning. Exploration of multimedia based instructional design techniques along with tangible user interfaces to make the learning experience of History more constructive and participatory is the primary aim of this project.

Content is delivered to the users in an audio-visual format rather than the conventional textual format which in turn has lower recall value as per the literature. We chose couple of Indian History events i.e. "The Salt March"  (Mahatma Gandhi, 1930) and "The Revolt of 1857" (Mangal Pandey) as our case study topics. Iconic tangible approach is used in the case study so that students can easily relate to the events and iconic figures of Indian history. Proposed concept is prototyped using fiducial marker tracking technology and the entire user-system interactions takes place on a table top horizontal surface. A quantitative usability testing session was conducted with 20 participants using System Usability Scale (SUS). Interface evaluation with participants produced motivating qualitative and descriptive quantitative results along with few system interface design suggestions which could be helpful for those who want to work further in this direction.
